Reformation Lutheran Church
“They spent their time learning the apostles’ teaching, sharing, breaking bread, and praying together.”
Acts 2:42
Have you made your new year’s resolution yet? Are you thinking about making one or two?
It does always seem to be appropriate that at the beginning of the new year we should be planning new beginnings in our lives. You know, those things that we were always meaning to do last year but, for one reason or another we kept putting it off. If I were to list the number of promises I have made to myself as New Year’s resolutions, but never kept, I would need a paper a lot bigger that this one. I’m so grateful that God forgives me and still gives me that chance to keep trying over and over again.
One of my resolutions this past year was to start attending the adult Bible class on Sunday mornings as often as I could and I’m so glad that I did. Lately, we have been studying the book of Acts and what the “early church” was like and how we in the class can begin to transform our church today into a church patterned more closely after the church in its early beginnings. One way to do this may be to become an Acts 2:42 church. In many ways, we already are…..but, there is always room for improvement. Isn’t that why we make New Year’s resolutions anyway?......because there’s always room for improvement?
This year, Reformation will begin the new year with new leadership. With the new leadership will come new ideas and new ways for us to become transformed into an even better Acts 2:42 church.
There’s still plenty of room in the adult Bible class for you to join us in learning the apostles’ teaching. And, there will be even more opportunities for our congregation to share with those in the community around us. I am looking forward to breaking bread with you as my friends and church family and, most importantly, I am hopeful for being able to pray together with you at every opportunity as we look to the Holy Spirit for continued guidance and direction for our mission.
Peace, Love and Joy,
Pat DeVeny
